The Creator and Free Will

God's words create things. Through the whole creation story, whatever He spoke came into existence and was set into its appointed action in perfect obedience.

When He created man, however, He created intelligent beings with the ability to not obey. Without this freedom, when He told Adam & Eve, "Thou shalt not eat of the fruit," there would be no way that they could--it would have been impossible. Our service would be like that of a robot, which is unacceptable to God. So He gave us the ability to not obey--the freedom of choice. This allows us to offer Him service of love, by an intelligent conviction of His justice and benevolence. He loves for us to serve Him with our whole heart--willingly.

The scary thing is that with this freedom of choice comes the ability to step outside of the Creator's law of life--into the realm of non-existence, or death. By creating intelligent beings with free choice power, the Creator risked Himself. And the worst-case scenario has been played out. But, because of the mysterious sacrifice of Christ Himself, we are given the choice--the free choice--to place ourselves on His side, back into the realm of life, joy, and peace. And as soon as we make that choice, and claim His Word for ourselves, that original creative power will be revealed in our lives, transforming us back into His image. Soon the universe will be forever safe from the terrible experiment of sin, and every intelligent being will find perfect joy in serving our wise and loving Creator, Redeemer, and King.

Forgive my imperfect rendition of this fascinating subject. Read Patriarchs and Prophets, Chapter 1 for a more accurate account.
